Business environment

Demand for creative mindfulness products is rising. The driver is simple: digital restlessness and information overload have left people exhausted. They're seeking refuge in slower, meditative routines and hands-on 'analog' activities.

String art – also called thread art – is one of those practices. Echoing ancient weaving practices from 12,000 years ago, string art experienced its major modern revival in the 1960s with hippies. Today's revival is inseparable from the rise of AI: computational and algorithmic string art have flourished in the 2020s as AI has made it vastly easier to analyze photographs and convert them into thread-mapping instructions.

Our client Let's String produces a unique product, a DIY string art craft kit, at the crossroads of mindfulness, meditation app, and algorithmic art.

Project brief

Let's String's market proposition is an ideal gift that merges multiple desires. It's simultaneously a new hobby, a meditation practice, interior décor, and a form of creative self-care – a perfect blend of relaxing experiences wrapped into one product, DIY string art kit.

The process is intuitive: snap a photo (of yourself, a loved one, a masterpiece, a film still – anything), feed it to the app, and the algorithm maps your board – showing exactly how lines will fill the space.

To present their product and describe the process in the plainest way, our client chose Shopify as a platform. To improve its Shopify storefront, Let's String partnered with Grinteq as established Shopify experts with a solid track record. Technically, our mission was to revamp the Shopify storefront, AB testing different hypotheses. Broadly, we were on a mission to engage and inspire creative mindfulness practitioners.

Challenge

Our goal was a no-brainer: represent the product, dispel doubts regarding product quality and accessibility, convert visitors into buyers. Though the real challenge was balancing redesign ambitions with hard constraints. The site must maintain strong SEO rankings and fast loading speeds – slow pages kill conversions, that’s a fact.

The team needed to test new theories that could boost conversion rates and expand audience reach. Not forgetting to preserve existing performance metrics. Our challenge was to implement it safely. We could not let the redesign hurt the site's technical performance or rankings.

To mirror the product concept, we had to create an atmosphere of transparency, ease, and calm via pixel-perfect Shopify layout.

Solution

Grinteq redesigned the two critical pages: home and product. Our team chose targeted changes over a full rebuild. Using Shopify CLI and Figma, we developed new designs within three weeks. Shopify Rollouts enabled A/B testing with real users. We learned which conversion theories didn't apply to this audience.

  • Development & Design Tools: We used Shopify CLI for streamlined local development and version control. Figma enabled iterative design collaboration and smooth handoff to the development team.
  • A/B Testing Infrastructure: Shopify Rollouts provided statistical significance testing and user segmentation capabilities. This platform allowed us to run controlled experiments with real traffic and collect actionable data.
  • Performance Maintenance: Grinteq maintained SEO rankings and PageSpeed scores throughout the entire project. There was no regression in existing performance metrics, ensuring that experimentation didn't compromise user experience or search visibility.
  • Testing Process: We split traffic between the old and new designs over multiple weeks to gather sufficient data. This approach gave us confidence that results were statistically meaningful, not random fluctuations.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Our team validated which design resonates strongly with our client’s audience and identified which conversion theories need rethinking.

Impact

Most importantly, Grinteq managed to fulfill the main task by adequately and relevantly presenting the product through Shopify enhancement while highlighting its ease and accessibility for lovers of hands-on mindfulness.

Our team managed to achieve a 0.07 Cumulative Layout Shift, which is extremely difficult and indicates a flawless layout.

We identified which conversion theories didn't resonate with this specific audience. These quantitative insights now guide the next testing phase, ensuring future experiments are rooted in real user behavior rather than assumptions.
